Explore the Potato Park in Pisaq and hike the short version of the
Classic Inca Trail in comfort, arriving at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) just like the Incas did centuries ago.
The Comfort Inca Trail starts from your hotel in Cusco and takes you first to the Potato Park in Pisaq, where you can learn about agricultural techniques, weaving, and cultural traditions from the villagers of Paru Paru. On the second day, you will hike the shorter version of the Classic Inca Trail, visit Wiñaywayna, and arrive at Machu Picchu in the afternoon through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). This tour allows you to visit Machu Picchu twice—once for sunset and again for sunrise—for a complete Machu Picchu experience.
Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco city or the Sacred Valley at 8:00 am. You’ll drive for about 1 hour to the village of Paru Paru, a typical Andean community located in the upper part of the Pisaq district. Paru Paru is dedicated to farming different types of beans and hundreds of native potato varieties.
In recent years, they have organized and created the “Potato Park,” where travelers can learn about agricultural techniques, weaving traditions, and local customs. You will also enjoy a short hike to Kinsa Cocha Lake and observe the rich local flora and fauna. Lunch will be prepared by locals using organic products from the area.
After lunch, explore the local market in Pisaq and then drive for about 2 hours along the Sacred Valley to your hotel near Ollantaytambo to rest before the trek the next day.
After breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up and driven to the train station in Ollantaytambo to board the train to Km 104. Upon arrival at Chachabamba (Km 104), you will show your passport at the checkpoint and start the Short Inca Trail. The first stretch is about 4 hours uphill to the lunch spot. Along the way you visit the archaeological sites of Chachabamba and Wiñaywayna.
After lunch, continue for about 1 more hour to the Sun Gate, from where you will have your first panoramic view of the magnificent Machu Picchu. Then hike down for approximately another hour until you arrive at the upper part of the citadel.
Enjoy Machu Picchu with fewer people in the late afternoon—perfect for photos and quiet moments. Afterward, take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where you will have dinner and spend the night in a hotel.
On the final and most important day, you will get up early, have breakfast at the hotel, and take one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu. Once inside, you can take a short hike to the Inca Bridge and then explore the citadel with your tour guide. The guided tour lasts around 3 hours, visiting the most important temples, terraces, storehouses, and palaces.
After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore on your own or climb Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain (both optional and not included; separate tickets are required).
Once you finish in Machu Picchu, you will have lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge hotel, then take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon, board the Vistadome panoramic train back to Ollantaytambo, where our team will be waiting to transfer you back to Cusco. Arrival time is around 6:00 pm.
