Cusco – Awanacancha – Pisaq – Ollantaytambo – Chinchero – Cusco
You will be picked up from your hotel at 8:00 am and driven across the mountains surrounding Cusco to the Sacred Valley. On the way, you will stop at Awanacancha, a farm for llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos. Then continue to the Taray viewpoint, a lookout with spectacular views of the Sacred Valley.
The next stop is the Pisaq archaeological site, an ancient Inca settlement built on top of the mountain. Here you will see impressive agricultural terraces, tombs, palaces, and houses surrounded by enormous walls. After exploring, you will drive down to the town of Pisaq to visit the famous handicraft market, where local artisans sell ceramics, textiles, jewelry, alpaca products, and souvenirs directly to visitors.
Lunch is about a 1-hour drive from Pisaq. In Urubamba you will enjoy a buffet lunch at a local restaurant, with dishes prepared from fresh products from the valley. After lunch, you will continue to Ollantaytambo, a beautiful town considered the “last living Inca city,” with original Inca streets still in use. You will visit the well-protected Inca fortress built to defend the Sacred Valley and the entrance to Machu Picchu.
The last stop is Chinchero, once a royal estate of the 10th Inca king, Túpac Inca Yupanqui. Explore the well-preserved Inca constructions, the colonial church built over Inca palaces, and visit the textile market, famous for handmade textiles and ancient weaving traditions using natural dyes.
